Studio Secrets with Gordon Cheung

What does a typical day in the studio look like for you? 

I meet my team early in the morning, to set the direction of the rest of day. Every day is different and we work on multiple projects. I’m lucky that I have a talented team with varying strengths, making every day different and exciting.

What are you working on at the moment?

I'm working on a solo exhibition at The Atkinson Museum opening in June 2023.

Do you have any rituals connected to your practice?

Drinking coffee.

What can’t you live without in your studio?

Coffee.

‍

How has tech most shaped your practice?

Technology such as the development of the internet and blockchain are major themes in my work for how they revolutionise the human condition. I also embrace tech in my art making from using computer, inkjet printers, AI and 3D printing.

How do you think Arcual could help shape the future of the art ecosystem?

Arcual offers empowerment to artists with access to creating contracts, royalty sharing agreements, digital certificates of authenticity and payment system to navigate what can be a daunting professional art world.

Which artist/s working today most inspires you?

Lee Bul, Cao Fei, Lawrence Lek and Samson Young currently inspire me.

Digital contracts on the blockchain.

Do you have a favourite art fair?

Art Basel Hong Kong.

What would you be if you weren't an artist?

Depressed.
